In a context in which the price of cars does not stop growing, the huge price reduction that Tesla launched last week surprised many. Especially if we take into account that with the new prices, more models are included in the MOVES III Plan, with the Tesla Model Y being especially benefited.
A descent that we are not used to. Lowering prices has not been Tesla’s usual trend throughout its history. In fact, he has not found benefits until he has increased the price of the units sold, a movement that he also replicated in Spain. A few weeks ago, however, he went the other way.
With the company manufacturing more units than ever but with a historic drop in its shares, Tesla has bet heavily on lowering the prices of its models. Just what he promised he wouldn’t do. The discounts have been considerable in our country and it has had its great beneficiary in the Tesla Model Y.
extensive discounts. If we take a look at the reduction in the prices of the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, we will find that the basic version of the sedan has gone from 51,990 euros to 46,200 euros. Above, the intermediate model is now at 52,400, for the previous 57,990 euros. Discounts of more than 5,500 euros in either case.
The Tesla Model Y, in addition, the reduction is much more pronounced. Although the reduction of the base model is 3,000 euros, going from the previous 51,200 euros to the current 48,200 euros, it is in the intermediate model, known as Great autonomy, the most benefited. In this case, the new price is 53,400 euros, when before its price was 65,990 euros. They are 12,550 euros discount, it is almost 20% less.
More than 20,000 euros. But to any of these models it is possible to apply the discount of up to 7,000 euros from the MOVES III Plan. All electric cars whose price without VAT is below 45,000 euros are eligible for this aid. An advantage that until now only the basic versions of both models aspired to.
Now, the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y Great Autonomy can also add this state aid. In other words, in the case of the SUV, whose reduction was already 12,550 euros, the discount is extended by at least 4,500 euros and up to 7,000 euros if we add the scrapping of a vehicle that is more than seven years old and that is up to date with the payment of the registration tax.
But that is the first figure that the configurator gives us. If we go into detail on the sale of the vehicle, we will see how another 1,210 euros are discounted until leaving the Tesla Model Y Great Autonomy at 52,190 euros to which, later, the MOVES III Plan would have to be applied. In the following image you have the sample.
Clarification. We have contacted Tesla to clarify this and confirm what we suspected. The reason is that the MOVES III Plan obliges manufacturers or dealers to lower their models by at least 1,000 euros, beyond the fact that the customer later claims the up to 7,000 euros discount that they can obtain with state aid.
The brand has confirmed to us that the basic Tesla Model 3 has a final price the same as in Italy, Greece and other European countries, but since they are obliged to reflect this discount (1,210 euros in the case of Tesla) in the final product sheet, the price has a first image superior in cost. As we have verified, the Tesla in Italy page does already reflect a price of 44,990 euros for the rear-wheel drive Tesla Model 3, instead of the 46,200 euros that it initially marks in Spain.
white thank you. Or black, at most. Here the configuration possibilities of a Tesla Model Y Great Autonomy end. Because the final price is so adjusted to be able to enter into the advantages of the MOVES III Plan that any other change in color or wheels causes the car to exceed the maximum limit of 45,000 euros.
And there is another “problem”: we will have to buy it without Autopilot, one of its great attractions, as we reflected in our test. This system raises the final price of the car by 3,500 euros. If, in addition, we want to completely unlock all the functions (with stopping and starting at traffic lights) we must add 7,000 euros to the price that the configurator gives us and, of course, we are again left without the long-awaited MOVES III Plan.
Hopes in the Tesla Model Y. The question now is whether buyers will back this significant downgrade. With the above prices and only two models within the MOVES III Plan, the firm has already managed to place the Tesla Model 3 as the best-selling electric car in Spain. The Model Y, which expanded its catalog since the summer of last year, has already managed to reach third position but with only one unit less than the Fiat 500e.
With a whole year ahead and two of the models with the best autonomy/price ratio, such as the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y Great autonomy, it is likely that the brand will once again open a gap in Spain. At least if you maintain current prices until the end of 2023.
