World Cup: the Bergamo rider prevails in 1’33”47, Stuhec second, Weidle third. Moments of fear for the bad fall of Suter. Far Federica Brignone
Sofia Goggia drops poker. In Cortina comes the fourth downhill success which confirms the dominance in the specialty of the Bergamo area. After the fall in St. Anton, Sofia puts everyone back in line with a powerful race which, from the central part onwards, becomes spectacular, although in the end she is not entirely satisfied: “My race was not flawless”. She will be, but there the queen of the downhill makes a gap finishing in 1’33”47. Only Ilka Stuhec (up to that moment third in the specialty classification), Kira Weidle, respectively 13 and 36 cents from Goggia and Mikaela Shiffrin fall below 1’34”.
Corinne Suter would also have come close, second in the specialty classification, but the Swiss, after a bump, loses control of her skis and becomes the victim of a terrible fall that keeps everyone in suspense.
After a few minutes Suter gets up and reaches the finish line in tears. Below the podium is the world cup leader Mikaela Shiffrin, fifth Lara Gut-Behrami. Elena Curtoni who finishes eighth in 1’34”19 at 72 cents from Sofia. The other Italians: Laura Pirovano is twelfth, eighteenth are Federica Brignone and Nicol Delago, even further away Nadia Delago.
