Solomon Pena, a Republican politician who ran for a seat in the New Mexico state House of Representatives in November, was arrested in the United States on Monday, losing the elections. According to the police, between December and January Pena organized armed attacks against the homes of four Democratic politicians in Albuquerque, the most populous city in New Mexico, with the help of four other people. There were no injuries in the attacks.
In November 2022, Pena had lost the election to Democrat Miguel Garcia, but had never accepted defeat and had repeatedly claimed, without proof, that the vote had been rigged. According to the investigations, the attacks against the houses of the Democrats would be linked precisely to the failure to accept defeat. Specifically, Pena is accused of having paid other people to carry out at least two of the attacks that the police are investigating, and of having himself participated in another.
