Scalebound has been one of the bitterest swallows that players have suffered in recent years as many of us wanted to see the result of the collaboration between Xbox and PlatinumGames. The bad moment of the brand during the Xbox era was combined with the inexperience of the Japanese studio to make something of that size and in 2017 the project was cancelled. However, the passage of time would have put everything in place to return to the game from the dead.
Scalebound could return from the dead
According to a statement by insider Shpeshal_Nick on his XboxEra podcast (via Insider-Gaming), Xbox and PlatinumGames are in talks to revive the Scalebound project. Before throwing the bells into flight, the information indicates that it is something that is at a very early stage: “it is very, very early, but I have been told that Platinum is working with Xbox again to seek to bring Scalebound back.” At the same time, it is mentioned that it is not known if the project, in case of being revived, would resume where it left off at the time of its cancellation or start from scratch.

Xbox and Platinum could make peace with the past by reviving Scalebound
Taking into account the insider’s statements, it seems that at this time it is only a rapprochement between the Microsoft brand and the Japanese study, perhaps to analyze the possibilities and feasibility of the project. At the time, PlatinumGames and Hideki Kamiya accepted that the development of Scalebound got out of hand due to experience but the years have passed and recently the controversial Japanese creative has insisted that the game must return and even mentioned that he would like to do so. “with or without Xbox” although the reality is that it is a Microsoft IP.
On the other hand, last year Phil Spencer was questioned regarding Scalebound during a trip to Japan considering that the situation has changed and both the brand and the studio are at a better time, however, the head of Xbox pointed out that there was “nothing ” what to talk about the dragon-themed action game.
Finally, while this is a rumor at this point, the source is very reliable and it is also true that Xbox is looking to make peace with the past and part of that includes fixing what has been broken in its relationship with the market, developers and publishers from Japan.
