Richard Barnett was found guilty for his role in the January 6, 2021 attack on the United States Congress organized with the intention of stopping the process of certifying the presidential election, won by Joe Biden. Barnett was convicted of all eight charges he was charged with, including entering a restricted-access facility, resisting a public official and stealing state property. Barnett is 62 years old and a former Arkansas firefighter.
During the raid staged by former President Donald Trump’s supporters, Barnett became famous because he had himself photographed sitting in a chair with his feet up on a desk in an office of Nancy Pelosi, who was Speaker of the House at the time.
After leaving Congress, Barnett also told a New York Times reporter that he had stolen some documents. Barnett’s sentence is expected on May 3: he risks up to 20 years in prison.
Correction — Bigo Barnett is from Gravette, Arkansas, not Alaska. I used the wrong abbreviation in my first tweet. My apologies to fine people of both states!
