Rauw Alejandro managed to give one last surprise to the millions of fans of Daddy Yankee. As he has done before, Rauw left a secret track on the album to release later, and “Track 7” comes to us in the form of “Panties Y Brasieres” feat. “El Cangri”, Daddy Yankee.
As a boy growing up in Carolina in the 90s, “El Cangri” was a Rauw idol, and Although the two have worked together in the past, on “Panties y Brasieres,” the pair come up with a hybrid sample of classic perreo with Rauw’s modern reggaeton sounds.. But make no mistake, “Panties y Brasieres” sees Daddy Yankee dig deep and give us that Playero-era Yankee.
In fact, the song is completed with samples of “Camuflash”, from the classic mixtape Playero #40 by a young Daddy Yankee. “Panties y Brasieres” is a perreo with a fast rhythm, which enters strong with the sounds of the old school of Yankee, followed by newly recorded verses that sound like they were taken directly from Playero’s Villa Kennedy studio in 1994.
The song’s rousing energy, coupled with Rauw’s signature sound, keep fans firmly in the past and future of reggaeton at the same time. This tribute to Daddy Yankee not only comes on the heels of Rauw’s hit new album, Saturno, but also serves as a final spin on one of the careers with more music history, just as Yankee ends his farewell tour.
Although the song was recorded before Legendaddy retired, the pair decided to keep it for now, giving fans one last glimpse of why he is truly the king of reggaeton, and why Alejandro deserves the kingship.
