LONDON – Transgender woman Isla Bryson in the UK was convicted of raping two women when she was a man. But now she was sent to a women’s prison to await punishment.
The decision sparked protests from activists, politicians and even United Nations (UN) officials.
Isla Bryson of Scotland was found guilty this week of committing rape when he was previously named Adam Graham, a “muscular” man with a shaved head and facial tattoos, the Daily Mail reports.
Bryson denied the accusations, telling Glasgow’s top court that any sex was consensual and he would “never harm another human being”.

However, prosecutors successfully argued against a jury over the six-day trial that Bryson, 31, assaulted one victim in 2016 and another in 2019. Both crimes took place in Scotland.
The defendant first appeared in court as Adam Graham and was named as such in a 2020 court indictment.
Later that year, according to British press reports, he decided to change gender to become a woman.

Bryson claimed in court that he knew he was transgender at age 4 but didn’t make the decision to transition until he was 29.
