Blue with different moods: Marta is third (“Happy with the season”). For Elena and Federica there is no lack of regrets
January 22 – CORTINA
Marta Bassino is radiant. For her, the third place in the Cortina super-G is the 28th podium in her career, the seventh of the season, the fourth ever in the super-G: “I’m very happy, today I had a lot of fun skiing this super-G, with almost easy conditions where sometimes it’s difficult to go fast, you risk taking hours because you feel good skiing and in the end you don’t come down. push the curves even in blind passages. Reconnaissance is the only thing that allows you to read the track, often it doesn’t show you much but it’s a good part of the result. Now we move on to the giant at Plan de Corones, I think they crossed out Erta so we will find completely different snow, it will be tough, we will need to bring out the courage to attack. So far I am very happy with the season: I am almost always more interested in how I manage to ski, rather than the result that arrives, which in the end and it is a consequence. First of all, I want to ski the way I have in mind, the way I know how.”
I wanted more
—
Elena Curtoni, sixth at 56/100 from the winner Mowinckel and 9 cents from the podium, is now fourth in the classification of specialties with 230 points against the 272 of the Norwegian. “I wanted more. Yesterday the hundredths were my friend, not today again, we’re back to normal. I’m sixth, good points, but I want to think about the race. In the central part I could have pushed more. I expected it to be more tactical , I expected more speed, in reality it went slowly. When it’s like this I struggle, I prefer it when the gates come upon me and I’m at the limit with the lines, I put more energy into skiing. Halfway through I got lost. It was certainly easier than it seemed in the reconnaissance. Now I’ll train athletically, I’ll go and see the work in the new house and then I’ll break my head, it’s right to do it before getting back on the level. I know a little about the Meribel track, but I’ve competed on it many years ago, if I remember correctly there is a flat part at the top of the descent but then there are many bumps and a final wall, I like it I don’t want to set goals based on the results, but on the basis of the skiing, that makes the difference I think I have awareness and c ontinuities that allow me to get to the start and think I can win if I ski the way I know how. This is the goal, to ski like I know how”.
Bitterness Brignone
—
Federica Brignone, 11th on arrival, still postpones the appointment with the podium in Cortina. She is now third in the super-G standings with 233 points: “I can’t get over it, I love Cortina but the results don’t come here. I’m not far from the podium, but I felt slow. I looked at Marta, I saw her position, it was a big slow giant, I said ‘I can dare’ but on this snow I go too hard, I’m too aggressive. Now Plan de Corones, I turn the page. Then I won’t train at San Pellegrino but at home, in La Thuile, together with the Canadian women’s team. I feel like staying at home, I haven’t prepared for the World Cup like this since Garmisch 2011, it’s great”.
