The production of the HBO series The Last of Us was anything but cheap and it is estimated that each chapter had a million-dollar budget. The results after 3 chapters are obvious, but this was possible thanks to the fact that a significant part of that money had to be spent on “dirty” the locations.

The city where The Last of Us was filmed had pros and cons
HBO’s The Last of Us series was filmed in Alberta, Canada, a city that has hosted many film and TV projects, each one celebrated by the government and grateful citizens for the rewards this brings in terms of tourism and economic spill. However, John Paino, production designer, revealed to Vanity Fair that the process had 2 sides. The first, without problems, since it ensures that the outskirts of the city allowed us to find locations similar to Texas, United States, where the story begins and the Cordyceps disaster begins: “the series was filmed in Canada. Finding Western-style cities in reality It wasn’t that hard because there’s a really interesting similarity between Canadian architecture and what I’ll call frontier architecture, where they have cattle pens and stuff. You can find cities like that. That world is quite colorful and full of life. I’ve filmed in many Of those little towns in Texas and I’ve been to, even in the smallest town, there’s all this big neon.”

However, the challenge came later since the story went to the post-disaster period (already in Boston) and the scenes had to be destroyed, in addition to highlighting the presence of military bases and factories in what was a forty area. The detail was that Alberta, Canada did not have places like this, at least not that could be used as such, which is why it was necessary to build the disaster: “when you go to the main areas, cities, states, there is always a liminal area that used to be an army base, or maybe it was an old factory. I thought Canada has a lot of that, that there would be a lot of places we’ll just shoot around. We couldn’t find any of that. I swear, we couldn’t even find a gas station “Abandoned. We slowly realized that a lot of things that we thought we’d just shoot on location, we’d be building. Also, the architecture just wasn’t there. I was really surprised, it’s a very clean country; there are no Americans.”
