It was Damon Mirani who, against all odds, helped Volendam take the lead in the 59th minute after a corner kick from former Ajax player Carel Eiting. In the sink or swim phase that followed, Mohammed Kudus managed to break the spell for Ajax. In the 80th minute he made it 1-1 on a pass from the tall Lorenzo Lucca.
Seven duels without a win
Ajax has now not won seven league matches in a row. The last victory dates from October 22 last year at RKC Waalwijk (4-1). The last time the club failed to win seven games in a row in the Eredivisie was in the 1964-65 season under coach Rinus Michels.
The supporters of Ajax had used the home match to express their dissatisfaction with the situation at the club. They heeded a call from the F-side and waved white handkerchiefs in the fifth minute of the game.
The supporters of the F-Side, gathered behind one of the goals, chanted ‘Schreuder rotten’. Fans in other stands also waved white handkerchiefs. The F-side had called on all Ajax fans via social media to protest. “Unfortunately, Ajax is currently suffering from a severe flu. So take your white handkerchief with you,” Ajax’s hard core of supporters wrote on social media.
Support for Daley Blind
Supporters have been clamoring for the departure of trainer Alfred Schreuder for weeks. They are also dissatisfied with the management and sang to Daley Blind who had left for Bayern Munich in the opening phase of the game.
