WARSAW – Poland will receive a US-made Patriot air defense system from Berlin in the near future. Polish Deputy Defense Minister Wojciech Skurkiewicz explained this on Thursday (12/1/2023).
Germany offered to put Patriots on country territory in November, after a stray Ukrainian missile killed two Polish civilians.
Speaking to the IAR press office, Skurkiewicz said the missile launchers could arrive Poland at any time, and they had to be “wired into” the Polish command structure.
The Patriots will be accompanied by German troops and will be stationed in the Lublin region, which borders Ukraine.

According to IAR sources, Berlin has sent a working group to Poland to prepare for the arrival of the main forces after the weekend.
In total, 400 German troops are expected to deploy to Poland.
Warsaw asked Berlin to send a Patriot system to Ukraine and deploy it to its western borders after a Ukrainian missile fell on the village of Przewodow, killing two civilians.
Initially, Poland blamed Russia for the incident, sparking fears of a global conflict between NATO and Moscow.
Later, however, Warsaw said it was likely the missile was fired by Kiev forces.
