The Italian fashion firm Schiaparelli caused controversy during Paris Fashion Week by presenting an impressive collection that included huge heads false of lions and other cats.
When sharing images of the catwalk on social networks, the brand added the caption: “No animals were harmed in the creation of this look”since various people believed that they were real heads.

Others criticized the brand for romanticizing animal skins in favor of fashion, even though they were made of synthetic materials.
“We have to stop portraying animals as luxury ‘products’. They may be made of foam, but these are endangered species that have historically been slaughtered to turn their skins into clothing. These images only show that these animals have value in their death. They don’t have it, their beauty lies in their life, their adaptations and their evolutionary history. Do not walk on a walkway. Inspiration is powerful, and this is not a good inspiration,” they told Schiaparelli on social media.

Other comments criticizing Schiaparelli’s catwalk argued that despite having used synthetic materials, it promoted cruelty against animals.
As revealed by the Italian firm on social networks, the feline heads were hand sculpted in foam faux leather, resin, wool and silk, and hand painted so they look as realistic as possible.
