Pinocchio, by Mexican Guillermo del Toro, was nominated as Best Animated Feature in The Oscar Awards in its 95th edition, which will be held on March 12, in Los Angeles, California.
Pinocchio, the traditional Carlo Collodi tale written at the end of the 19th century, takes on a new dimension in the hands of Mexican director Guillermo del Toro. A new version, made as animation “stop-motion”with all the creative charge of the talented man from Guadalajara and who has a powerful message about families.
Pinocchio has been pleasantly received by critics and movie lovers.. Of course, he has a strong dose of the themes that interest Guillermo del Toro, and that have become commonplace in his films: love, fascism, death, the human condition, loneliness and hope.
“I think (the story of Pinocchio) has touched me as a son and as a father, and I think it’s an idea that helps a lot to heal misunderstandings in families. If you can understand your son or your father as someone fallible, the wounds heal”Del Toro said in statements for the EFE agency, during the last red carpet at the film’s premiere. El Guadalajara, winner of two Oscars for “The Shape of Water”, lost his father four years ago.
Pinocchio, “unlike any other that no one will ever see”
Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio and veteran animator Mark Gustafson embarks the puppet and his “father” Geppetto on an odyssey Set in the Italy of the dictator Benito Mussolini, against the background of World War II (despite the original history of Collodi dating back to the late 19th century).
“Our Pinocchio is unlike any other that anyone will ever see. Pinocchio, the Netflix original movie and Guillermo del Toro, continues on the platform, after his tour of some select theatersand users can still view it from their home community.
Pinocchio is the new production of Guadalajara Guillermo del Toro, whose production took more than 10 years, and arrived on Netflix last Friday, December 9.
