The flight hit the gulf between Pokhara’s domestic airport and the new international airport, which had just opened on New Year’s Day.
The world’s leading aviation expert, Professor Ron Bartsch, told Nine’s Today on Monday (16/1/2023), said that there might be an aerodynamic error behind the tragic incident.
He said an optical illusion of traveling over the ground may have caused the pilots to believe the plane was traveling through the air faster than it actually was, resulting in a stall.
“Planes need air to fly and air is scarcer at around 800 meters there,” the professor said.
“When you travel over the ground, it seems that you will be much faster on the ground than in the air. That’s what caused the stall.”
