Always, when we have been forced to stay apart on the road, we have seen ourselves with the intention of getting out of the car, opening the trunk and placing the emergency triangles. However; that will no longer be the norm, but now it will be the turn to do it with the emergency lights, the well-known balizas V-16which must be approved by the DGT (and will be connected).
The V-16 emergency lights are already seen
As such, and being one of the most anticipated novelties for road safety, we already have what are the V-16 light beacons, the connected lights that serve exactly the same as the triangles: inform the rest of the vehicles that we have had a breakdown, accident or simply have stopped the vehicle on the road.
In addition, they have a great advantage over traditional triangles: you don’t have to get out of the car (with the risk of being run over), since you place it on the roof of the vehicle. Of course, they must be homologated.
We speak, in this sense, of what is a orange flashing device It should be placed in the highest part of the vehicle. Drivers will have until January 1, 2026 to adapt to the change, but the law already allows these lights to replace the classic triangles.
You will no longer need to get out of the car
Thus, and thanks to the publication in the BOE of the text that regulates the technical characteristics of these new connected light beacons, can improve security of drivers when they suffer a breakdown on the road, since this light increases the visibility of the damaged or accident-occupied vehicle and alerts other users of its presence without the need for anyone to get out of the car.
The new text includes the technical instruction on the connectivity of the V-16 lights in which the new royal decree establishes that the device will have to be certified by designated technical services for the Regulation of the Economic Commission for Europe of the United Nations (CEPE/UN 65) as the single point of contact for manufacturers. Said technical services must notify the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) of the list of those devices that obtain certification.
The reason for saying goodbye to emergency triangles is the high number of fatal accidents caused when drivers get out of their vehicles to place or pick them up after suffering a mishap on the road. It is so now no need to get out of the vehicle nor walk on the road avoiding traffic. Simply arch your arm through the window and place the signal light on top of the car.
These beacons are connected to improve security
Among other measures, it implies the creation of a road geolocation cloud to be able to warn drivers that an accident is approaching through elements such as illuminated signs, being part of the great keys of the new DGT 3.0.
In those, we already have recent models on the market such as the one from Netun Solutions, which has put the first of these lights on sale. It is the V16 connected Help Flash IoT, where it has reached an agreement with Vodafone for its connectivity, distribution and commercialization.
In this way, what it does is automatically connect to the DGT traffic control centers and immediately alert about an obstacle on the road, reducing the risk for the driver and for the rest of the vehicles.
This means that you only will track the vehicle when the orange light is activated, sending the position of the accident to the DGT 3.0 platform, which in turn will forward the accident to other applications and navigation systems to avoid mishaps due to oversight or overreach. In the case of Netun Solutions, its price is 59.95 euros and includes connectivity to Vodafone’s NB-IoT network from the time of purchase until 2037.
