One of the most anticipated releases of this 2023 is, without a doubt, the romantic comedy ‘Your place or mine’ (‘Your Place or Mine’, 2023), a Netflix production that will have its premiere this coming February 10 –a excellent choice for Valentine’s Day – and features stellar performances by Ashton Kutcher and Reese Witherspoon, who bring the lead couple to life, but also marks the directorial debut for seasoned screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna.
According to the story, after 20 years of friendship, Peter (Kutcher) and Debbie (Witherspoon) know everything about each other. Or so they want to believe. But one day for work reasons they exchange houses for a week (one lives in New York and she lives in Los Angeles). They soon discover that they haven’t been entirely honest, and Peter meets Jack (Wesley Kimmel), Debbie’s son, who in turn discovers a secret. Peter, as well as meeting his crazy ex-girlfriend (Zoë Chao).

Thus, in a recent webinar where the cast of the film participated, Ashton Kutcher highlighted –Well, he is commonly associated with roles as a young student or professional – which is not the first “mature role” that he has played on the big screen; in your opinion“the secret is in the hairstyle, in its style, and my hair is my age: 45 years”.
Also, when playing a novelist in the film, the actor said that “I don’t read many fiction books, but now my character is someone who tells stories, so I worked closely with the director and she put before me a list of ten works; I read them and got excited about reading again thanks to this experience.” For her part, Reese Witherspoon emphasized that once she had guaranteed who would have the papers, she realized “we didn’t know each other, Ashton and I. A month before the start of filming we did not notice, and in the script it is about friends who have known each other for decades. So we decided to interact, we sent videos to each other daily in that period.
However, for the most part Witherspoon and Kutcher worked separately due to story and production needs; for which the actor explained that “once they were filming, this form of communication –through videos– became daily; Sure, we did a scene together, but most of the time was required because we each filmed on our own.”

On the other hand, the director (as well as screenwriter and producer) of the film, Aline Brosh McKenna, highlighted that this feature film “is very special”, not only because it is the first time she has directed it, but also because the story he wrote “is based on a personal anecdote, it is a narrative that focuses on mature people because they are people who have lived similar experiences”.
Likewise, the actor Jesse Williams, who once worked as a literature teacher, indicated that “after fifteen years in which I was focused on reading nonfiction books, thanks to this paper I have done it again and I see that books have left a permanent mark on my life”. Now, the actress Zoë Chao –whose character is Peter’s ex-girlfriend– He highlights that “I fell in love with the character as soon as I started reading the script; She may seem strange, but I see her as original, we don’t know what she does, but we do know that she is not a sinister or malicious character, rather she is positive and protective, although full of contradictions”.
Finally, the young actor Wesley Kimmel –who plays the protagonist’s son, Jack– commented that, from the beginning, “during the reading sessions”, before the recordings, “I realized that it would not be difficult to play him, because this character is very similar to me, plays the same sport and even has the same allergies”.
