Uncharted and The Last of Us are very important pillars for PlayStation and they are also the most popular series of Naughty Dog. However, this does not imply that franchises will remain active forever. At least that’s what Neil Druckmann, co-chair of the study, suggested in a recent interview.
The creative knows that players dream of new installments of both franchises, but he made it clear that they will not necessarily do so. In fact, he hinted that Uncharted had come to an end and that the same could happen with The Last of Us. So a third installment of this latest saga is not a sure thing.

Naughty Dog ended Uncharted and the same could happen with The Last of Us
During a chat with BuzzFeed, Druckmann spoke again about the possibilities of seeing The Last of Us: Part III and another Uncharted installment in the future. He affirmed that although they are very successful sagas, it does not necessarily mean that they will continue.
He explained that Sony has always supported the studio’s projects and ideas, but this does not mean that there is pressure to make sequels to both sagas that already have guaranteed commercial success. For this reason, he clarified that his popular franchises will not necessarily continue.
“We at Naughty Dog are very, very privileged that our publisher is Sony, which means Sony funds our games, supports us, and we are owned by Sony. They’ve always supported us to follow our passions, which means that just because something succeeds, people think there’s a lot of pressure and we have to make a sequel. And it is not like that, ”explained the creative.
From his perspective, Uncharted came to an end and that this could happen with The Last of Us if they don’t find the motivations to make a third installment. This implies having a compelling narrative with a “universal message”. Otherwise, The Last of Us: Part II will be the end of the saga.
“For us, Uncharted was incredibly successful — Uncharted 4 was one of our best-selling games — and we can put the finishing touches on that story and say we’re done. We’re moving on. Similarly, with The Last of Us, it depends on we if we want to continue it or not. If nothing occurs to us, we have a very strong end with the second part and that will be the end”, concluded Druckmann.
Recently there were rumors about a possible return of Uncharted with a reboot that would not be in the hands of Naughty Dog. Likewise, The Last of Us: Part III is said to be already in production, but neither project has been confirmed by PlayStation.
