The new engine will not debut next season
Yamaha team manager Maio Meregalli spoke in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport on the sidelines of the presentation of the Japanese team, awaiting redemption against Ducati after the bitterness of 2022: “The priority was to improve speed. The numbers that the engineers have shown are reassuring. But we also concentrated on aerodynamics and, above all, on cornering, also to go a bit in Morbidelli’s direction.”
Fabio Quartararo is asking for a more powerful engine, but developments will only be seen starting from 2024: “This year’s engine is still the offspring of that of 2021 and 2022, Marmorini is focusing on the next one”. On the French rider’s criticisms after the Valencia tests: “We tried too many things together or in the wrong order, and what the engine gave, something else took away. Fortunately, it happened in Valencia and we were able to fix it, Sepang would have been much worse”.
