“We are little known, however we are those doctors who, by analyzing cell tissues, give a name to the disease and direct the patient towards a specific medical and/or surgical treatment” says Filippo Fraggetta, president-elect of the Italian Society of Pathological Anatomy and Diagnostic Cytology. “We get the diagnosis but we have information about the treatment and prognosis of the pathology itself – explains the expert -. We are somewhat hidden doctors who, however, deal with all patients, we deal with all pathologies, neoplastic and otherwise. However, very little is known about our work.” Hence the mission of Siapec-Iap, “that is to carry on the little-known work of anatomopathologists and cytologists in clinical practice, following high-level and quality scientific standards that can give answers to the questions that are formulated by doctors and patients” . Pathological anatomy “has made great strides forward”, underlines Fraggetta, “it has changed a great deal compared to the past, also and above all from a digital point of view”.
