FLORENCE, 30 JAN – The superintendent of the Florentine Maggio Musicale, Alexander Pereira is being investigated for embezzlement regarding the expenses incurred and charged to the opera-symphonic foundation. Pereira, defended by the lawyer Sigrfido Fenyes, received a guarantee notice on January 27 and together with an invitation to appear from the public prosecutor’s office for next February 9. The superintendent will be interrogated by the prosecutor Christine von Borries, owner of the file. It was Pereira himself who communicated the matter to the meeting of the Board of Trustees of the foundation, held this afternoon. “I inform you that I have received guarantee information from the Florence prosecutor’s office with which the existence of an investigation against me is made known to me – explained Pereira .- In substance, it is a matter of the facts already widely reported by the media in recent times. I will reiterate and clarify to the judicial authority what I have always maintained in every venue, including the control commission of the Municipality of Florence and the board of auditors of the Foundation, namely that these are all expenses connected and necessary for the exercise of my mandate of superintendent and artistic director of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino”. “The steering committee – reads a note dated May – notes with regret the communication received from the superintendent Alexander Pereira regarding the guarantee information, relating to known facts on which the superintendent has already reported both to the steering committee and to the board of auditors, which issued a specific report. The council expresses confidence in the work of the judiciary and trusts that superintendent Pereira will be able to fully clarify his positions”. (HANDLE).
