Many more people died than expected in the last weeks of 2022

In the last weeks of 2022, many more people died in the Netherlands than expected. According to CBS figures, 15,819 people died in the last four weeks of the year. That is more than 3100 more than could be expected according to estimates, a so-called excess mortality of more than 24.5 percent.
