He avoided death and ate more ketchup when he used a mirror to reflect the sun and attract the attention of passing planes.
Francois is known to be repairing a sailboat last December off the coast of the Caribbean island of St. Maarten in the Netherlands Antilles when the weather turned bad and took him out to sea.

“There is nothing to do but sit and wait,” he said as quoted by Anadolu, Sunday (22/1/2023).
Luckily for Francois, a plane saw him when he used a mirror as a signal and wrote “Help” on the hull. He was then picked up by a container ship passing about 120 nautical miles northwest of the Colombian port city of Cartagena.
“At some point, I lost hope and thought about my family, but I thank the lifeguards. If it weren’t for them, I wouldn’t be telling that story,” concluded Francois.
