WASHINGTON – A dog from Ohio, United States of America (USA) was crowned as dog oldest surviving by Guinness World Records . The dog, named Spike, has reached the age of 23 years and 43 days.
The world record-keeping organization said the 22.8cm tall chihuahua was certified as the oldest living dog on December 7.
Spike’s owner, Rita Kimball, said she and her family found the dog in the parking lot of a Camden grocery store 13 years ago.
“His back was shaved, he had bloodstains on his neck from chains or rope, and looked very rough,” Kimball told Guinness World Records.

“The clerk at the grocery store told us he had been there for three days and they gave him leftovers,” she said.
Kimball decides to take the dog home to his small farm, where he quickly adjusts. He later named him Spike.
“Spike is a name for a big dog. My dog is small, but his attitude is like a big dog,” he explained.
Kimball took Spike to the vet, who determined the dog’s likely birthday would be November 10, 1999.
