Napoli comes with the victory on 53 points from twenty games. Internazionale, the new number 2 after losing to AC Milan, follows no less than 13 points behind. AS Roma of coach José Mourinho is in sixth place with 37 points.
Mourinho, who had jokingly congratulated Napoli on the title a day before the game, saw his team almost take the lead at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. A header from defender Kim Min-jae just missed his own goal.
Napoli opened the score in the 17th minute with a nice goal from Victor Osimhen. The top scorer controlled Khvitsja Kvaratskjelia’s cross with his chest and knee, then volleyed the ball in high and hard. Osimhen and Kvaratskjelia were then both close to 2-0 before Leonardo Spinazzola tested Napoli keeper Alex Meret for the first time just before half-time.
AS Roma put pressure on Napoli at times after the break, but the best chances were initially for the home team. Fifteen minutes before the end, however, it was Stephan El Shaarawy who scored the 1-1 at the far post. Substitute Giovanni Simeone still gave Napoli the victory by making it 2-1 in the final phase.
