The filmmaker responsible for Dogma or Clerks, applauds how James Gunn handles all the controversy about his new DCU
The truth is that some of the voices of classmates were missing. James Gunn in the industry that they positioned as part of the head of DC Studios. In all this controversy surrounding his new dc universewhich has originated anger, threats and insultsboth Gunn and Safran have found themselves, strangely enough, quite alone.
During all this time in which the news regarding Superman and Henry Cavill‘Wonder Woman 3‘, the series about the Green Lantern Corps, and many others, Gunn has had to go out to deny unfounded rumors, explain his work and to calm the fiery spirits of a large part of the fandom DC.
The situation has changed thanks to the filmmaker Kevin Smith, who has positioned himself on Gunn’s side, praising his way of acting. This American screenwriter, actor and comedian is best known for directing and writing the independent films ‘Clerks’, ‘Mallrats’, ‘Chasing Amy’, ‘Dogma’ and ‘Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back‘, among other.
In addition to his film work, Smith has a comic storytelling style that he prints in all his appearances and works.but he is also known for his love of comics, pop culture and all things geeky.
Kevin Smith thinks James Gunn is doing the right thing
Gunn has never hidden. He may have been blunt in many of his responses, not so many in others, but he has never hidden. He has faced the earthquake that arose after some of his decisions for the new DCU. And this is precisely what Smith values. The filmmaker and content creator expresses his respect for Gunn’s personal touch, comparing it to Marvel’s lack of communication with his fans.
Smith:
“I’m liking that James is his own publicist for the entire DC/Warner Bros. division, whatever it is. He is very smart. Everyone should be as responsible as him. I know a lot of people say, ‘Oh, I don’t like what he does! But at least he answers the questions. He doesn’t hide. And he’s not being arrogant…”
“He’s saying, ‘Look, we’re doing something. We’re sorry if that hurts some people’s feelings.’ I respect that you answer the questions. You don’t have to. How many times does someone at Marvel say, ‘Okay, we’re going to address the concerns of the fans.’ That doesn’t happen very often.”
