Spencer thinks Xbox Game Pass is on the right track
Xbox numbers fell during the last fiscal quarter across all sectors. The company stated that Xbox Game Pass and its growing number of users dampened the situation somewhat. Speaking to IGN, Spencer stressed that the service is going very well and that it has reached a record number of paying subscribers. Therefore, the service continues to grow steadily.
“We are at an all-time high for paid subscribers, and Game Pass continues to grow. I am happy with the growth. We set high internal targets, and people see that sometimes we don’t hit them, sometimes we do, but I will always be ambitious with what we try to do,” Spencer said.
He added that the recent drop in Xbox is most apparent when doing year-over-year comparisons, so the results make sense to him. Especially since they come from a 2021 that had important releases such as Age of Empires IV, Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite, while in recent months they did not have such an important release.
Likewise, he stressed that the results were also different due to the growth that occurred in the industry during the pandemic and that little by little it is regulated. He added that his goal is to continue to grow on all fronts, including Xbox Game Pass. For this they will focus on games.
“Our goal is to be a healthy growth business. That’s our commitment within Microsoft, and what we’re trying to do. And for that it is important to release great games regularly, ”said Spencer.
Spencer is confident in the future of Xbox Game Pass for upcoming releases
In this sense, the manager highlighted the importance of Starfield and Redfall for the service. He stated that the growth of Xbox Game Pass has been constant thanks to the arrival of important games, so Bethesda releases are essential for the future.
“Redfall and Starfield are really important games, all the first-party games we’re making are. As for the growth of Game Pass, it has been constant. And as we add new games and sequels, we see the growth continue. Sometimes the growth is in games that we expected, and once in a while a Vampire Survivors or now a Hi-Fi RUSH comes along and they create their own interest,” the Xbox boss concluded.
