TEL AVIV – Extremist groups Israel led by a member of the city council Sheikh Jarrah staged a demonstration. In action, they shouted the words “We Want Nakba Now.”
They held the action as a counter to the demonstrations by dozens of residents and activists of Sheikh Jarrah who protested the new policies of Israel’s right-wing government. Demonstrators were seen waving Palestinian flags and calling for an end to Israeli apartheid.
The extremist settlers then rallied in counter-protests, chanting racist slogans and calling for a repeat of the Nakba, a reference to the expulsion of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from their lands during the creation of the state of Israel in 1948.

Israeli police were seen attacking Palestinian protesters, including veteran protester Nafissa Khweiss, who regularly takes part in sit-in protests at al-Aqsa Mosque.
However, Israelis calling for a repeat of the Nakba events were allowed to continue chanting as quoted from New Arab, Sunday (15/1/2023).
Chants calling for the expulsion of Palestinians have been given fresh oxygen in recent months with the emergence of religious extremist rights in Israeli politics.

“You are here by mistake, it is a mistake that Ben-Gurion did not finish his job and did not expel you in 1948,” Bezalel Smotrich, who heads the Religious Zionism party and is currently Israel’s finance minister, told members of the Palestinian Knesset in October 2021 .
Israel’s Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, has been witnessed several times shouting “death to the Arabs” in marches through Jerusalem – though in the summer of 2022 he claimed it had been “many years” since he had done so.
