TEHERAN – Iran will soon receive a number of advanced Sukhoi fighter jets Su-35 Russia in March. It was part of a military equipment order that includes missile defense systems, missiles and helicopters.
This was reported by the Tasnim news agency, citing a member of the Iranian Parliament, Shahriar Heydari.
Heydari, who is a member of Parliament’s Commission for National Security and Foreign Policy, did not specify the number of fighter jets ordered.
“Most of these weapons will soon enter the country. For example, Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jets will arrive in Iran early next year,” Heydari said, referring to the Persian calendar year, which starts on March 21, as quoted by Bloomberg, Monday (16/1/2023).

The Russian government has not commented on reports about Iran’s order for Su-35 fighter jets.
Iran has developed closer ties with Russia since its invasion of Ukraine and has provided Moscow with military drones for its war effort. That prompted tougher sanctions and strong condemnation from the United States and the European Union.
Heydari’s comments also come as the Islamic Republic of Iran faces growing international rebuke for its crackdown on deadly anti-government riots and the use of executions against protesters.
The US has been trying hard to block Russia from selling its various combat equipment, including the Su-35 fighter jets, to various countries. At first, Indonesia also wanted to buy a lot of the Moscow fighter jets, but this was canceled due to threats of sanctions by Washington.
