Iran warns EU of consequences if it designates the IRGC as a terrorist organization Photos/Illustrations
TEHERAN – Major military agency Iran warned European Union (EU) on the “consequences” of designating the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terror group. Earlier, after the vote, the European Parliament urged the European Union to designate the IRGC as a terrorist organization.
The European Parliament called for the designation because of terrorist activity IRGC suppression of protesters, and provided Russia with drones.
“The recent actions of the European Parliament, apart from having no precedent in international rules and regulations, will affect regional and global security, and the European Parliament must be careful with the consequences,” said the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, which is responsible for coordination between Iran’s conventional army and the IRGC, in a statement carried by state news agency IRNA.

“The European Parliament is affected by the US and Israel’s hostile policies,” the statement added.
The statement also accused Western powers of being behind the anti-regime protests in Iran.
National protests erupted in Iran following the death of 22-year-old Iranian Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini in police custody on September 16.
The protests, which quickly escalated into calls to overthrow the Islamic Republic, have been met with violent measures from the authorities.

According to human rights groups, the crackdown on demonstrations in Iran has resulted in hundreds of people being killed and thousands arrested.
Tehran views the protests as “riots” backed by foreign powers.
Earlier, Iran’s foreign minister told the European Union’s foreign policy chief that the bloc would “shoot itself in the foot” by listing the IRGC as a terrorist group, Iranian state media reported.
