JAKARTA – The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, condemns the suicide bombing attack carried out by terrorists at a mosque in Pakistan. The attack killed more than 80 people and injured other worshipers.
“Indonesia condemns the heinous terrorist attack that took place at a mosque in Peshawar city, which has resulted in many deaths and injuries to worshipers,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on its Twitter account, Tuesday (31/1/2023).
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also conveyed its condolences to the families of the victims and hoped that the injured victims would recover quickly.

“We convey our deepest condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the injured victims to recover quickly,” said the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The suicide bombing took place at a mosque inside the high-security police headquarters complex in Peshawar province, Pakistan. It happened at around 1:30 p.m. local time during Asr prayers in the northwestern city, which is near the country’s border with Afghanistan.
The suicide bomb destroyed the roof of the mosque. At least 87 people died in the attack targeting police.

So far no group has claimed responsibility for the attack. The Pakistani Taliban group, which is independent of its affiliates in Afghanistan, denied responsibility although a commander previously claimed the attack.
The Pakistani Taliban – a separate group from the Taliban government in Afghanistan – ended a ceasefire with the Pakistani government in November, and since then violence has escalated in the country.
In December the group targeted a police station – like Peshawar, in the north west of the country – leading to the deaths of 33 militants.
