The Dutch hockey players did not succeed in reaching the final of the World Cup in India. They lost to Belgium in an exciting semi-final. The Olympic and world champion took the shoot-outs better after a tie (2-2).
Thijs van Dam, Terrance Pieters and Seve van Ass were unable to take advantage of their shoot-out. The Netherlands lost a lead twice in regular time. Dutch goalkeeper Pirmin Blaak stopped a penalty shot at 2-2. He only returned a Belgian shoot-out.
The Netherlands will compete against Australia on Sunday for third place at the World Cup.
