“The first project (of the book) was very different. It was 800 pages and now it only has 400. It could have been two books. The hardest thing was removing things,” he said in an interview published Friday in The Telegraph newspaper.
“Things happened, especially between me and my brother, and to some extent between me and my father, which I don’t want the world to know. Because I think they would never forgive me,” he added.
The book, entitled “Spare” (“In the shadow” in Spanish) went on sale on Tuesday and knows a brilliant success.
Nobody gets rid of criticism in this biography of Enrique, and least of all his brother William, heir to the British throne, whom he defines as his “best enemy”.
The youngest son of Carlos III describes Guillermo as a choleric man and assures that he never accepted his wife Meghan, whom he saw as “rude and aggressive”.
Enrique assured that he decided to bring his ailments to light not to “sink” the monarchybut because he considered that it was his responsibility to try to reform it to protect Guillermo’s children (Jorge, 9 years old, Carlota, 7 years old, and Luis, 4).
“I know that of these three children, At least one will end up like me substitute,” he said.
“And that hurts me, it worries me”he added in the interview, conducted before the publication of the book in California, where he lives.
“It is not about trying to sink the monarchy, but about saving it from itself,” he said. “I know that I will be crucified by many people saying this,” he admitted, reiterating that, despite everything, he wanted to reconcile with his family.
He also went directly to the royal family and asked to apologize before his wife Meghan, “because they know what they did”.
“Then admit it and we can move on to something else,” he added.
prince henry he had already settled accounts with his brother in a controversial documentary series titled “Harry & Meghan” and released on Netflix in December.
In it, he and Meghan Markle, 41, they recounted their difficulties within the royal family and blamed much of their unhappiness on the racist attacks against the exactriz, who is mixed race, and the harassment of the British tabloid press.
Buckingham Palace has so far not reacted to the publication of the book.
