KIEV – Domestic Minister Ukraine were among the 16 people who died when a the helicopter crashed near a kindergarten outside the capital Kyiv, Wednesday (18/1/2023). The helicopter crashed near a nursery in the town of Brovary on the eastern outskirts of the capital.
Two children were among the dead, officials said. Twenty-two people were hospitalized including 10 children. It’s not clear what caused the helicopter to crash.

“Among the dead were several high-ranking interior ministry officials, including Interior Minister Denys Monastyrsky and his first deputy minister Yevgeniy Yenin,” national police chief Igor Klymenko said, as quoted by Channel News Asia.
Monastyrsky, who is in charge of police and security inside Ukraine, will be the most senior Ukrainian official to die since the war with Russia began. The 42-year-old father of two was appointed interior minister in 2021.
Videos shared on social media show buildings burning and people can be heard screaming. “In the city of Brovary, a helicopter crashed near a kindergarten and residential buildings,” the head of the Kyiv regional administration, Oleksiy Kuleba, said via Telegram.

“At the time of the tragedy, children and employees were at the kindergarten. There were victims,” he added. He said that medics and police were working at the scene.
The city of Brovary is located about 20 km northeast of Kiev. Russian and Ukrainian forces fought for control of Brovary in the early stages of the invasion of Moscow until Russian forces retreated in early April.
The crash follows a tragedy that left 45 people including six children dead when a Russian missile hit a residential building in the eastern city of Dnipro over the weekend.
