Last June Miguel Ángel Martín, a well-known basketball coach, was admitted to the hospital to undergo prostate surgery for the cancer he suffered from and that was where his nightmare began, according to his relatives.
After the operation, the doctors informed the family that a part of his intestine had been mistakenly sectioned during the operation, but that everything was now resolved.
At first, Miguel Ángel was fine, but as the hours passed, something began to go wrong. However, he spent 14 hours without medical attention and when they came to see him he had septic shock and multiple organ failure that meant he had to undergo surgery again and spend a month in intensive care.
This not only happened once, but history repeated itself. Miguel Ángel again had septic shock that no one realized until the morning after he began to feel unwell and he had to spend another month in the ICU.
A month after this, his family decided to transfer him to a new center, where he had to undergo surgery for the sixth time. However, the damage caused in the first operation could not be repaired and he passed away.
The hospital where he was admitted the first time ensures that he did not commit any negligence and now the family seeks justice.
What do your relatives say?
Marisol García, Miguel Ángel’s widow, has spoken live on ‘Y ahora Sonsoles’. “He died because of a chain of mistakes and lack of humanity,” she has said. She has assured that they have destroyed her life and her entire family. She believes that the hospital has not acted correctly and that on many occasions there were not even materials, and she had to provide what was necessary for the cures for her husband.
In addition, she is sure that it was the abandonment she suffered by the medical team that caused her husband’s death. “They won’t want to admit it, but I’m going to keep fighting,” she said bluntly. Miguel Ángel spent five years fighting for his life and believes that for the doctors he was nothing more than a patient.
From the hospital, when the error occurred in the first operation, they recognized their error and said that they were going to fight for his cure. “All that has been forgotten,” she said.
Marisol has assured that she will go to the end for him.
