BEIJING – Ended the escape of a former bank teller in China who stole more than USD 500 thousand. He was caught after hiding for 25 years by changing his identity and undergoing plastic surgery to trick the police.
Authorities in Yueqing, a city about 370 km south of Shanghai, detailed the movie-like story of the real-life Hollywood heist in a social media post this week. This story is very entertaining internet users.
Authorities say Chen Yile disappeared in 1997 while working as a bank teller for China Construction Bank Corp. At that time he was still 26 years old.
He is known to have stolen around 3.98 million yuan or currently USD 587 thousand (Rp 8.8 billion) by inflating bank accounts over the weekend, then withdrawing cash from ATMs.

Authorities in China said they tracked him down in December and charged him with crimes including corruption, document forgery and bigamy.
