Hasbro’s two big franchises, GI Joe and Transformers, have clashed on the pages of comics since the days of Marvel, continuing in Devil’s Due and IDW.
When Comics Forum published in Spain, within the regular GI Joe series, an adventure along with the Transformers originally posted by Marvel In the United States, this story aroused the interest of many readers because they were able to read the confrontation between two pop culture icons of the eighties.
Today the cruces o crossovers between different publishers they are less frequent than at the end of the last century, but within the same publisher there are usually not excessive problems in bringing together the characters of two titles, especially if they are successful among the general public. In fact, fans expect a crossover in the cinema, after the individual films of these groups.
De Marvel a Devil’s Due y Dreamwave
When Hasbro’s franchise rights passed from Marvel to Devil’s Due (GI Joe) and Dreamwave (Transformers), the encounter between them, paradoxically, was greater than under the umbrella of the same publisher. In 2004, with a script by Dan JolleyWas published GI Joe vs Transformers II.
This second meeting between Autobots, Decepticons and the elite commando was closer to the animated series of these, than to the previous stories in Marvel. Also, the colors used by Devil’s Due were closer to those used in the anime and usual in the regular series of Transformers published by Dreamwave at that time.
In the sequel, the military hunts down the remnants of the Cobra organization, who sell black market technology and weapons of Cybertron. Despite the special suits given to them by the Autobots, the joes are surprised by modernized ones. Dreadnocksin their first meeting, even though they don’t pose much of a risk to Snake Eyes.
In the previous match, the joes received transforming mech suits as a gift from the joes. Autobotswho returned to Cybertron. The Cobra Commanderin that meeting, allied with the Decepticons flew with Starscream, in an unpleasant encounter for both. The new series took the preceding premise, but adapted it in a new direction.
Cobra Commander wasted no time negotiating with Right selling a supercomputer Teletran 3con cybertron technology. The connection was facilitated thanks to a wormhole between Earth and the home world of the Transformers, based on a confusing relationship between the leader of Cobra and Starscream (it ended badly in the previous encounter), which is not explained in the comics.
The Decepticons and the strange alliance: GI Joe + Cobra + Autobots
In this second encounter between joes and robots, the Decepticons are about to achieve final victory on Cybertron under the leadership of Shockwavesince Megatron he fell into the previous story, so he dislikes Cobra Commander’s interference with Teletran 3, even more so when it causes damage to the system.
The damage against the Teletran 3 creates spacetime wormholesso in a way random, joes and robots are sent to different places and times. The military and Cobra have to find the displaced Autobots and Decepticons in less than twelve hours to the present because if they don’t, the temporary storm caused by these will destroy the earth.
Los displaced transformerswith the erased memoryThey are unaware of the incident with Teletran 3, so they are adapted to the time where they are. The teams of joes and cobras have a disrupting device with the shape of autobots shieldwhich allows them to activate the transformation of the robots.
Save the world in the past, present and future
The plotfrom that moment, it develops in four different scenarios: the past, in 1937 and during the recession of the 1970s; the present and a dystopian future with the Decepticons as rulers.
In 1937the action takes place in Chicago -a fetish city for Transformers, as can be seen in Michael Bay’s films– where Roadblock (Barricade), Beach Head (Surf), The Baroness (The Baroness) and a Cobra soldier discover Optimus Prime and the Stunticons.
In the seventiesin an undetermined location, appear in the city Lady J, Zartan, Storm Shadow (Shadow) and Snake Eyes (Snake Eyes), who are in charge of waking up Bumblebee, Hot Rod, Jazz y Blitzwing.
Into the future comes a team made up of Barbeque, Spirit, Tomax and Xamotwith him Dr. Mind bender (Doctor Comecocos), who will have to carry out their mission in a complex world where Decepticons are the lords and masters, with Duke as head of the resistance that has the Dreadnockstransformed into true cyborgs, and with Ratchet as the only living Autobot.

The creative team of this crossover varied throughout the numbers, with ups and downs in quality, but generally maintaining a happy and dynamic drawingAccompanied by vivid colors that give a sensation of magnitude and spectacularity to the action between the Transformers and the joint teams of G.I. Joe and Cobra. The crossing ended with a point and continued, because it would continue in GI Joe vs the Transformers: Black Horizon.
