Germany, protest by environmentalists: the policemen get stuck in the mud
Videos have gone viral showing German police officers mired in mud as they try to block coal-mine environmentalists’ protests against the expansion of the Garzweiler coal mine in Germany.
The demonstrations, which saw the participation of residents and activists of the environmental movement Fridays For Future, were interrupted by the police, who intervened to quell the protests.
Several clashes have occurred between policemen and demonstrators with a balance that in official data at the moment sees 20 injured among the demonstrators and 70 among the forces of order.
The protests were also attended by Greta Thunberg, who was taken away by two officers in the middle of the demonstration.
Local media reported that the police had told the environmentalists to leave, but in the face of protests from those present, they were forced to intervene.
The town authorities specified that the girl was not stopped, but was only removed because “she was sitting on a low wall of the mine in a dangerous area”.
