TEL AVIV – Former Israeli Prime Minister (PM) Ehud Barak called for Israeli citizens to engage in street fighting to overthrow Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
In an article published by Yedioth Ahronoth on Wednesday, Barak asserted, “This is an elected government. It is legitimate, but its actions and plans revolve around a coup. This makes it illegitimate.”
He added, “Therefore, it is the duty of every citizen to join the fight for the country, its security and safety, and for the values of the Proclamation of Independence, for equality, for human brotherhood, dignity, rights and freedom.”
The article, published only in Hebrew, also stated, “The struggle will be resolved through demonstrations in the streets, squares, workplaces and halls of higher education as millions are scheduled to take to the streets. This evil government will collapse. “

In another article the same newspaper published the next day, Barak warned, “I will start at the end. The fight has begun. This is a stark warning.”
He added, “This is an imminent danger to the collapse of Israel’s democracy. Bad things happen when good citizens remain silent. Every good citizen seeking life in this community must ask himself: Where do I stand?” in the middle of this struggle?”

Barak continued, “For many of us, this battle will be the most important thing we will do in our lives. It will be hard.”
He said this had happened many times over hundreds of years when nations rebelled against the “darkness of dictators”, declaring, “This time we will win.”
Barak concluded, “It has been said before: democracy must know how to defend itself from within against those who use their power and freedom to destroy it. This is exactly what happened to us. We have to admit it. This is a coup.”
