Earlier we explained why you should always sleep in a cold bedroom. But there is something else you should keep in mind in your bedroom. Namely closing your door. Why? Due to fire hazard. Although you would rather not think about it, fire can occur in any house, including yours. And that is precisely why it is best to sleep with the door closed. And for three main reasons:
1. A closed door is a barrier
Leaving the door closed not only prevents the fire from spreading to the bedroom as quickly, it also acts as a barrier to the toxic gases released by the smoke. The oxygen content in the bedroom also remains much higher if you leave the door closed. And finally, the temperature in the bedroom also remains much lower than in the room where the fire is spreading.
2. Closed door = more time
The door not only ensures that the fire and gases spread less quickly, the barrier also ensures that you have more time to respond to the smoke alarm and get away as quickly as possible. Fortunately, because fire spreads very quickly.
3. Today, fire spreads even faster
Fire spreads very quickly anyway, but there is also a difference in the speed of spreading between then and now. According to the American Steve Kerber, director of the Fire Safety Research Institute, 40 years ago you had about 17 minutes to really be out of your house in order to survive. But nowadays that time is getting shorter and shorter due to the use of synthetic material, furniture and the construction of the houses. Because of this, we sometimes even have 3 minutes to escape.
