Trainer Arne Slot of leader Feyenoord may have access to Quinten Timber again on Sunday during the Classic against Ajax. The midfielder is on his way back from an injury and “he is further than we had hoped”, Slot said two days before the game in De Kuip.
Timber sustained a foot injury in December during an exhibition game with FC Emmen and seemed to be absent for a long time. However, Slot saw the 21-year-old player rejoin the group last week. “He was able to follow parts of the training again. We will see on Saturday whether he can play against Ajax, but that will not be in the base. It is going in the right direction and faster than expected.”
Feyenoord will miss Gernot Trauner anyway, who was also injured in December. Sebastian Szymanski trained with the selection again on Friday, after he was substituted after an hour last weekend during the 3-0 win at FC Groningen.
The Classic between Feyenoord and Ajax starts on Sunday at 2.30 pm in De Kuip. The match is led by referee Serdar Gözübüyük.
