Xbox will have a new type of event throughout this year to stay in touch with its community and offer interesting announcements. We refer to the Developer_Direct, whose first edition will be held on January 25.
Many gamers were surprised by the announcement, partly because the name of the presentation sounded familiar to them. As you can imagine, they compared it to the iconic Nintendo Direct. In fact, a former employee of the company believes that the brand’s managers are not at all happy with the movement of Xbox and the name of their event.

Does Nintendo mind the Xbox Developer_Direct name?
The Nintendo Direct marked a before and after for video game presentations. So it is not uncommon to know that various companies have decided to emulate its format due to its practicality and its effectiveness in terms of communication.
While we don’t yet know the format of the Developer_Direct, many gamers are already comparing it to Nintendo’s presentation simply because of its name. Kit Ellis, a former Nintendo employee, joined the conversation and gave his opinion on the matter.
He thinks that Nintendo is not at all happy with the name of the Xbox event, since it uses a keyword associated with its presentations. In case you don’t know, Ellis worked for years at Nintendo as one of the managers and presenters of Nintendo Minute.
“It’s very interesting that Xbox uses the Direct name for this. Come with a lot of expectations as to the format and type of ads you will include; We’ll see if you can meet them. On the other hand, I am sure that Nintendo does not like the name at all, ”Ellis said on his Twitter account.
Some of his followers agree with his statements and think that Nintendo must not be happy with the move of Xbox in terms of its communication strategy. Due to this, Xbox fans believe that the event could have been called something else, since it does not even include the name of the brand.
“Xbox’s use of the name ‘Direct’ for its presentation is likely a deliberate attempt to capitalize on the recognition Nintendo has created with the same name and can be seen as an attempt to mimic Nintendo’s format and reputation,” says one of The critics.
There are also players who believe that there is no problem, since other companies have also used that word. An example of this is Devolver Direct, a Devolver Digital event that took place in 2022. However, it is clear that the studio used that name in a parodic way to preserve that ironic and irreverent stamp that characterizes it.
