Actor Ewan McGregor returned as Kenobi in the new Disney Plus series based on the beloved Star Wars character and now talks about his ending.
In 2022 the series premiered Kenobiwhere we see Ewan McGregor playing the famous Jedi master in a new adventure. In a recent interview with DSA, he wanted to give his opinion on the great confrontation against Darth Vader (Hayden Christensen).
“Well, like Hayden said, I think it caught us a little bit by surprise. Playing it, he became quite emotional in a way that I don’t think he would have imagined it would be.”
“Obviously… The series is leading up to that moment where Obi-Wan has to step back from the ring and not just try to go back to the world of the Jedi and fight… Through the series and the confrontations he has , he is more or less preparing for it. You can see him getting his strength back from him and he has to save Leia when she falls from the top of the rooftop.”
“There are stepping stones back, but it leads to this moment where he has to fight his old Padawan, you know? His best friend. So there’s the emotional side of it and then there’s the physical side of it, and they were both a surprise.”
Ewan McGregor he praised the martial artists who helped in the process.
“The actual fight itself was incredibly well designed and choreographed by Jonathan Eusebio, our fight arranger. Beautifully, beautifully done… So carefully thought out and he studied all the fights we’d done in the prequels and took Kenobi’s style in a place where… Someone who’s rusty but also older and very well thought out. But it was difficult.”
“I think we both felt it was beautiful for us to work together again. And there was something in our lives and everything that happened to us since we last worked together. It was in the air between us. So it was a real… I don’t know if the word ‘meta’ is correct, but there was something beautiful about it and it did. He took me by surprise. It was very moving.” He said Ewan McGregor about getting back to work with Hayden Christensen.
“I think I understood the depth of his despair in a cerebral way before we got there and when we started talking about making this movie, which became a series.”
“That was my feeling that wouldn’t it be interesting to take this character that we know and love of Alec Guinness through the original movies, through my work on the prequels, and take him to a really different place where he’s broken? But I couldn’t really imagine what that felt like until we played it and that was really interesting.” he concluded Ewan McGregor.
