The Doctor Who series has received a brutal injection of money from Disney Plus. But… Will it be up to Marvel and Star Wars?
Russell T Davies has returned to Doctor Who since it will be broadcast on Disney Plus and for that reason they have received much more money to make the episodes. Although, the showrunner himself has said in a recent interview with GQ, that he cannot be compared to Marvel y Star Wars.
“The world has changed. And now we are in the age of the streamer… It was not my idea, it was the BBC’s idea to go for a streamer like Disney Plus to invest in the show worldwide, which I totally agree with. I agree. We’re not at the budget level with Star Wars and the Marvel shows.”
“The budget is better than it was, yes, yes, yes. I mean that any piece of television costs millions. We’re not allowed to talk about budget, and we’re not on the level of Star Wars or Star Trek, but it’s more than I’ve ever had to work with.”
“Yes, having a bigger budget for Doctor Who is one of the reasons I’ve come back: you can tell stories on a larger scale. It’s the same old problems, I still have to cut scenes because they’re too expensive, and I still have to reduce the number of monsters and stuff like that. But my imagination feels freer, much freer, actually. It’s a pleasure to write anyway. I’m very proud of it.”
This new era of Doctor Who revolves around the fourteenth doctor played by Dear friend (Sex Education) y Millie Gibson (Coronation Street) as his partner, Ruby Sunday. For now, there is no exact release date, but hopefully they will give us more information soon so we will know when we can see it on Disney Plus.
