Although most people who change health insurance immediately choose a new one, this is not required by law. Cancellation of health insurance is possible up to and including 31 December and a new insurance must be selected before 1 February.
Undo selection
Have you previously chosen another insurer, but are you not satisfied? If you did this by telephone or via the internet before the turn of the year, you still had two weeks to undo the choice. Unfortunately, that time has now passed.
It is mandatory in the Netherlands to have health insurance. If you are uninsured for healthcare costs, you risk a fine. In addition, the government itself can also register people with a health insurer, for a higher premium that can be deducted from the salary.
Exception to the rule
Despite this regulation, there are also exceptions: people who are not insured due to religious beliefs pay a special extra tax for healthcare costs.
