In the men’s final of the Australian Open, in addition to the title, first place in the world ranking is also at stake. Novak Djokovic and Stefanos Tsitsipas can both replace Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz as number 1. Djokovic also wants to equal the record of Rafael Nadal, who is now the most successful tennis player with 22 grand slam titles.
The 35-year-old Serbian has 21 grand slam titles on his honors list. Djokovic captured nine of those in Melbourne, making him the record holder at the Australian Open. The Serbian starts his tenth final in the Rod Laver Arena at 09:30 Dutch time and hopes to keep his undefeated status intact.
Tsitsipas is still waiting for his first grand slam title. The 24-year-old Greek is in the final of a grand slam for the second time. Two years ago, Tsitsipas also competed against Djokovic at Roland Garros. He then lost a 2-0 lead in sets on the clay court in Paris and saw the title go to the Serbian in five sets.
Tsitsipas won only two of his twelve meetings with Djokovic, in 2018 and 2019. The last nine matches were won by the Serb.
