The charges dropped by the Public Prosecutor (JPU) against Richard Eliezer Pudihang Lumiu drew public criticism. Even though he was recommended to be a justice collaborator (JC), Eliezer apparently received a sentence of 12 years in prison.
The size of this charge is considered not comparable to other defendants such as Putri Candrawathi who is only being prosecuted for 8 years in prison.
Interestingly, however, it turns out that the Attorney General’s Office did not consider Eliezer to be a whistleblower. Represented by the Kapuspenkum Attorney General’s Office I Ketut Sumedana, the prosecutor claimed to have considered JC Eliezer’s status as recommended by the LPSK.
“So the defendant received a much lighter charge than the defendant Ferdy Sambo as an intellectual actor. Defendant Eliezer was a subordinate who obeyed superiors to carry out wrong orders and became the executor for the intended murder, so the planned murder was carried out perfectly,” said Ketut.

“Then the crime committed by the defendant Eliezer as the executor, namely the main actor, was not a revealer of legal facts. So he was not the first revealer of legal facts, instead the victim’s family was taken into consideration. This means that he is the main actor so it cannot be considered as something that must be get a justice collaborator,” he continued.
Eliezer’s attorney, Ronny Talapessy, disputed this statement. Ronny did not deny that the victim’s family was the first to notice that there was something wrong, but other facts, including Ferdy Sambo’s scenario, were judged to have been uncovered due to Eliezer’s confession.
“Based on the courage of a bharada, who risked everything and told the truth, this case was finally opened, the fake scenario was exposed. He was also in a cooperative trial,” explained Ronny.
“The fact is that Richard Eliezer’s confession revealed what happened,” he continued, as quoted from the Dua Sisi program on the YouTube channel tvOneNews, Friday (20/1/2023).
Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabarat’s family lawyer, Martin Lukas Simanjuntak, also expressed a similar opinion. Martin did not deny that his client was the first to notice the irregularities in Yosua’s death.

After that Eliezer was made a suspect and still managed to defend the Sambo scenario. But gradually Eliezer began to cooperate, especially after he was no longer represented by the attorney provided by Sambo.
“It was August 5, Richard at that time applied to become a JC and was approved and he helped us to reveal the true facts,” said Martin.
“Richard’s testimony confirmed that it was a shootout, Ferdy Sambo also shot in the head, the murder scenario on the Saguling road, then there was no rape, and there was no Joshua carrying Putri on July 4,” he continued.
Martin confirmed that his clients were the first to open the public eye to the irregularities in Yosua’s death, but the facts of Sambo’s involvement and a number of other parties would not have been revealed without Eliezer’s intervention.
