Cyclocross rider Denise Betsema has won the Exact Cross of Zonnebeke. It was her second win of the season. Most of the toppers missed the competition, also known as the Kasteelcross. Sunday is a cyclocross race for the World Cup in Benidorm, Spain.
Betsema, who skipped a World Cup race earlier this month due to fatigue, was given the opportunity to work on self-confidence. The Texelse still had the Belgian Marion Norbert-Riberrolle in her wake in the first round, but before the start of the second round on the muddy course in Zonnebeke she was alone. Norbert-Riberrolle finished second at more than 1 minute. The American Austin Killips followed at a good distance in third.
Betsema was pleased with her performance. “It’s nice to win again. It was always a bit of pushing in that mud, but if you ride in front, you get wings,” said the cyclocross rider of Pauwels Sauzen – Bingoal at Eurosport.
