In Post Americana, the United States has fallen into barbarism. Only the American elite sheltered in a mountain can fix them, or maybe they just want to conquer it?
Steve Skroce premieres a new series and that’s always good news! The Canadian transports us in Post Americana to an apocalyptic future in which the only oasis of civilization is an American libertarian capitalist utopia, or what is the same, a nightmare for anyone who is not part of the upper classes of society. And abroad, the barbarity and the survival of those who have more resources. All this told with a lot of humor and very acid criticism of the most publicized nation in the world, the USA.
Post Americana is a monster story. From humans who take survival to the extreme as a way of life, and from Republicans who take survival as their way of life to the extreme. She is an acid critic of many current values and systems of the most conservative North America.made with a lot of humor, a lot of bad mood and with a rhythm and an action that is rarely seen, I don’t know if his friendship with Brian K. Vaughn has influenced, but something seems to have influenced his way of what and how to expose the information .
A nuclear war has devastated much of the United States. A group of chosen ones led by the rulers of the nation have hidden in a gigantic bunker to preserve their civilization. The problem is that the powerful entered with the chosen ones, who were civilization. The elites that dominated and destroyed the world, and have returned to destroy a society to create an oligocracy. And they want to extend it to the outside, except that the outside has a new, dangerous civilization in which to survive on a day-to-day basis, which makes them dangerous. But even with that savagery there are elites who cannot allow liberties to corrode their rule.
Steve Skroce does not intend to give a political or moral speech, just tell the story of current American society facing a post apocalyptic world and do it with a lot of action. The characters have such different objectives from each other that the fights are continuous. And even though there are no shootouts there are verbal confrontations, it’s a series that starts high up and stays up so long it almost takes your breath away. And when it relaxes, it does so to prepare you for the next high-speed ride up the roller coaster that is Post Americana.
Skroce’s art is always a marvel, motley and baroque, full of detail with extreme characterizations and elegant, brutal action. He is very close to fighting with Geoff Darrow for the title of artist capable of creating super-dynamic action with just one panel.
Conclution
Post America is a work that may seem less complex than it is, but it is not so complex as to spoil the trip. It’s a roller coaster, a Formula 1 race, surfing in the middle of a tidal wave. A visual maremagnum that fills the eyes with a script that is not just that. Rather, it gives meaning to everything and creates a comic where there are moments to rest your ideas even if you are watching a tribe of cannibals blow to pieces.
