Cable theft is an evil that is seen daily in Latin America and especially in our country, where companies and especially users suffer from this crime, which according to 2022 figures continues to rise. This is because, thanks to information provided by Movistar, cable theft in Chile reached 60 crimes per day last year.
You can read: Chile had the fastest fixed Internet in the world in 2022, being the country that accelerated its speeds the most
A figure that in total adds up to 22,000 cable thefts in all of 2022, which marks an impressive increase compared to 2021, which reaches 76%. An increase that, in addition to economically affecting national ISPs, also directly affected customers, which came to be more than 2 million people who suffered the consequences of this large number of thefts.
In addition, in its press release (shared by Pisapapeles), Movistar indicates that the Metropolitan, Valparaíso, Biobío, O’Higgins and Antofagasta regions are the ones that had the highest number of cable thefts during 2022, being in this last region the communes de Santiago, Maipú, San Bernardo, Conchalí and Pudahuel the most affected.
A crime that we hope will begin to be controlled during this 2023 since with the paradigm shift that the COVID-19 pandemic left us, where the majority of people adopted the “home office”, it is based on maintaining constant Internet connections. , which are lost with cable theft.
