ALJIR – Chairman of the DPR RI Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency Fadli Zon was elected to chair the Asia Group Consultation Session at the Parliamentary Union of OIC (PUIC) Countries, Saturday (28/1/2023).
A number of Asian countries that are members of this group discussed Asian representation in a number of PUIC strategic organs.
The DPR RI itself as a Delegation of the Indonesian Parliament succeeded in occupying membership in various important PUIC organs, namely the Executive Commission, Political and Foreign Affairs Commission, Human Rights and Family, and the Commission on Culture and Inter-Civilization Dialogue.
In addition, the DPR and the Iranian Parliament were elected as members of the Ad-Hoc Commission on Muslim Minorities, which is tasked with dealing with various challenges to Muslim minorities around the world, including the problem of Islamophobia.

Furthermore, the DPR took the initiative to host a series of discussions entitled Human Rights in Muslim Countries, as part of the PUIC agenda.
After the Asia Group meeting, the DPR Delegation attended the opening of the 17th PUIC Conference chaired by the Algerian Parliament.
A number of issues surfaced at the opening moment including the Palestinian issue as a common concern and an issue that unites the Islamic world, the burning of the Koran and Islamophobia, and the suffering of minority Muslims, especially in Rakhine and Uyghur.
It is also important to note that the opening ceremony of the conference was attended by representatives of the African and Latin American Parliaments where the two regional forum blocks are ready to cooperate with PUIC in responding to common challenges.
